The ongoing Nirav Modi ‘s case has triggered a lot of commotion across the country. Nirav Modi is reportedly staying in a luxurious suite on the 36th floor of JW Marriott Essex in Manhattan, which faces the New York’s Central Park.
Nirav Modi, who is alleged to have cheated the Punjab National Bank in a scam of Rs 11400 crores is now giving a run for the money to the government. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids at 17 premises of properties belonging to the Jeweler, including his house, and showrooms spread across Mumbai and Delhi. Yesterday, the ED also conducted raids at a showroom of Gili Jewellers in Thane’s Viviana Mall and the boutique of Nirav Modi in Mumbai’s Kala Ghoda. Allahabad former Director revealed that he had not approved the loan to Gitanjali Gems and had sent a letter of dissent to the then government and RBI. However, he was directed to approve the loan.
The MEA had suspended the passport of Nirav Modi and his maternal uncle and business partner Mehul Choksi for four weeks with immediate effect. The ministry said that the passports will remain revoked until the concerned parties give a legitimate reason of why their passports shouldn’t be revoked. The jeweler has reportedly run away from the country a month before FIR was filed against him. However, his passports were evoked after that. “After the suspension of his passport, he cannot move to a different location. Wherever he is, he will remain in the same country,” the MEA spokesperson said.
The tax department has raided at 29 properties and over 100 bank accounts which were having a connection with Modi and his family. The ED has recovered assets of over Rs 5,600 crores till date. Nirav Modi scam
