    Rajsamand Murder

On Wednesday, Rajasthan government imposed Section 144 in Udaipur when some Facebook posts surfaced in support of Shambhulal Regar. These posts suggested carrying out rallies and demonstrations in support of the convict in Udaipur. As per the orders, more than four people are not allowed to assemble in a group.

Shambhulal Regar is the convict of a brutal murder that took place in Rajsamand, last week. In a horrific incident he first attacked a Muslim labourer with an axe and then set him on fire. Not only he captured the entire incident on camera, but he also spread it among public, but he also circulated various videos talking about Love Jihad.

As per reports, somebody named Upesh Rana wrote several Facebook posts and talked about arriving in Udaipur and wrote that he would conduct rallies and demonstrations to support Regar. After that, the police in the district took prompt action and internet services were suspended until the order is lifted by the authorities.

Besides, the police had also arrested two others in Udaipur who allegedly wrote inflammatory Facebook posts regarding the murder of the Muslim labourer Mohammad Afrazul.

It must be noted that Regar was arrested within 24 hours of circulating the video. After the arrest, he claimed that Afrazul was a perpetrator of “love jihad”.  The term is used by Hindutva groups to accuse Muslim men of entrapping Hindu women to marry them for ultimately converting them to Islam. However, the Rajasthan Police has refuted all these allegations.

The Rajsamand murder created a dreadful environment as soon as the videos went viral. The videos were inhuman and the act was regarded as shameless and insane by CM Raje. The accused was booked under Sections 302 and 201 under IPC. The Police arrested the main convict Regar and also detained 8 others in the case.

Later, the DGP OP Galhotra also addressed a press conference informing that Rajasthan Police is committed towards ensuring the safety of the public and anyone who disturbs the harmony of the society.
