A cattle fair was organized 40 kms away from Jaipur which had enough fear prevailing in there. The reason is Pehlu Khan’s recent case which happened in Alwar. The 55 year old died in the fight with cow vigilantes in Rajasthan. He was heavily injured and then succumbed to death three days after his injuries.
For the five men have been arrested for creating chaos and causing death of Pehlu Khan. His death has caused nightmares for animal trade in Rajasthan. There is Pashu Hatawada near Jaipur, which is facing a shrinking business because of the case. Also, there is fall on the municipal tax which has come down from Rs. 6 lakh to Rs. 2 lakh.
Cattle fair had catched enough popularity in some last years and the weekly fair business showed auspicious earning. Traders from Punjab and Gujarat had come to buy cattle but Pehlu Khan case drowned everything for them.
Mohammad Asgar had shifted from Muzzafarnagar to Ramgarh cattle market around 22 years back and around six months back his son was beaten for moving cows to Gujarat.
The 55 year old said, “My son and driver were taking six Hollistan cows to Himmat Nagar in Gujarat, when they were stopped on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway, and beaten up brutally after the gau rakshaks (cow vigilantes) snatched their mobiles and money. The locals and the police had saved us when they saw we had milch cows”.
Many other traders faced similar situations and this has prevailed the air of fear among them.
Seepak Chuadhary, who is an animal dealer hailing from Haryana and into cattle business in this market said, “We used to sell 30 to 40 cows a day. Saturday is the weekly fair, but today I have not sold even a single cow”.
