Are you always eager to watch 3D movie or interested in exploring beautiful destinations across the world? If you are, here is a chance for you to blend both your interests. The Rajasthan government will soon launch VR (Virtual reality) booths at major tourist spots in Jaipur that would allow you to enjoy virtual 3D-walkthroughs of famous monuments of Jaipur and Udaipur.

Now, you could witness the grandeur of Jaipur breathtaking monuments, while you are seated in a comfortable chair.

You will now be able to relish a 3-D experience of prominent monuments across the city. All we need is an Oculus Rift 3D headset-head mounted goggles with a screen in front of the eyes which will be connected to the PC and through a small remote control with different navigation options.

Monuments like Albert Hall Museum, City Palace (Jaipur and Udaipur), Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, Sheesh Mahal of Amer Fort will also be showcased in the eight gates of Walled City including Ajmeri Pol Gate, Chandpol Gate, Ghat Gate, New Gate, Samrat Gate, Sanganeri Gate, Suraj Pol Gate and Zorawar Singh Gate.

“Through the 3D experience combined with motion tracking capabilities, it would become a lot easier to move around 3D models of the monuments and explore the nooks and corners than using a mouse and keyboard.

The Oculus Rift, when plugged into a computer’s USB port, tracks your head movement to provide 3D imagery on its stereoscopic OLED display. It just feels like you have put on a pair of glasses; the headset is very comfortable,” said YK Jain, joint director, department of IT and Communication, government of Rajasthan.

“The as-built 3D walkthrough videos of the scanned monuments have already been made and uploaded on the website of the Rajasthan Tourism, giving tourists a 3D experience. Going a step forward, we have created virtual reality 3D-walkthroughs on Oculus Rift and will soon set up kiosks at different tourist spots in the city initially. This would not just attract more tourists but would also be helpful in a case when a tourist has no time to visit all the monuments,” Jain added.
