    The parents in Jaipur city of Rajasthan protested against the exorbitant hike in fee by private schools in the city. There are complains that privates schools have violated the Rajasthan Schools (Regulation of Fee) Act, 2016.

    According to the act, the fees has been decided in every school by a 10-member school fee committee but schools didn’t follow the norms. Many schools of Pink City have raised the fees but Vidyashram has increased it by 27%. The parent was annoyed over the hike of fees excessively.  In fact, the school authorities didn’t answer the parents.

    After getting the letter written by the parent of a student at Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan Vidyashram School, the Prime Minister’s Office stepped in into the matter. PMO has directed the Rajasthan chief secretary via a letter to take action in the matter.

    To resolve the matter, the PMO asked the state government to reply to the petitioner and a copy of the same to be uploaded on the portal.

    What was written in the letter by parent?

    The issue of excessive hike in fees made parent of a student studying at Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan Vidyashram to write to PMO on April 23, seeking its intervention in the matter. The notices issued by the district education officer (DEO) and the director of secondary education department over the increased fees were also attached.

    In the notice to school by director of secondary education, the school was asked to submit records and explain the increase or lose recognition. The letter stated that the school’s action was in violation of The Rajasthan Schools (Fee Regulation) Act, 2016 and demanded that the fee hike be revoked. Further, district education officer also wrote to school stating that school didn’t follow norms while increasing fees.
