Project UDID: Rajasthan state has the second highest Unique Disability Identity Card holders

Rajasthan state has made great achievement as it stood second in terms of generating Unique Disability Identity Cards. With a view to create a National Database for PwDs and to issue a Unique Disability Identity Card, the project “Unique ID for Persons with Disabilities” is implemented.  These UDID cards are also called Swavlambhan Cards.

Under the ministry of social justice and empowerment, the project UDID falls. According to Persons with Disabilities Act 2016, Central and state governments should provide services, create facilities and give support to people with disabilities.

Benefits of Swavlambhan Cards Disability Identity Card

It encourages transparency and easy delivery of government benefits to the person with disabilities.

This project also aims to maintain uniformity of the delivered benefits.

It keeps a track of physical and financial progress beneficiaries at all levels of hierarchy.

It also facilitates direct transfers of scholarship, employment and marriage allowance in the bank accounts.

How far has Rajasthan achieved?

As per the report, Rajasthan state has 2.65 lakh specially-abled persons. In Rajasthan, 1.21 lakh UDID cards have been issued. It also includes 9,474 UDIDs generated in Jaipur. The state uses multiple ways to make this concept known and help beneficiaries to make the cards.

Talking about other states, Madhya Pradesh has generated highest cards while Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir have zero generation of UDID cards.

How to get the UDID cards?

The process to get UDID card is quite lengthy. First, the form is filled online and sent for physical verification. After this, medical board will certify the disability for card. The data is sent to ministry of social justice which keeps a track of people falling under this category.  Then the data is uploaded so that beneficiaries can avail all the facilities under project UDID.
