Rajasthan Doctors Strike: The World has baptised doctors as ‘God’ for some reason – enriched with the ability to infuse life into the victim or sufferer.
A Doctor becomes a doctor only after he takes an oath – an oath in which they vow to rescue and help a patient up to their abilities and will. The doctors are mandatorily required to read this oath before they are granted the title of “Doctor”. It is this oath, which the doctor keeps in mind while writing a prescription to the patient.
The ongoing Rajasthan Doctors Strike has taken a toll on the patient’s health. Oblivious to their oath, doctors are prioritising fulfilment of their demands over a patient’s life. And this act of escaping from their responsibility of saving lives is beyond basic integrity and humanity.
Doctors may be arrested under law
A doctor’s services are considered as necessary services and there is law pertaining to mass strikes from doctors. As per the ‘Resma’ provision in the law, doctors who are absent from their place of service can be imprisoned and are subject to strict investigation. Hence, it is no surprise that these protesting doctors in the Rajasthan Doctors Strike may soon be put under arrest.
Doctor’s demand is as long as a grocery list
The doctors have put forward 33-long demands which they want to be fulfilled. The doctors have been extensively agitating over the fulfilment of their demands through the Rajasthan Doctors Strike.
If reports are to be believed, the doctors have demanded the formation of a separate cadre for in-service doctors, single-shift run government health centres, rural allowances, Rs 10,000 grade pay benefit for doctors, corrections in salary discrepancies, housing facility and safety for all doctors.
Rajasthan Doctors Strike : Why doctor’s demand of ‘Single-shift run health centres’ is an indecorous idea?
Amongst the 33 long demands of the doctors, a few of them are clearly baseless and nonsensical. The demand of running government health centres in only one shift (day), it is an utter common sense that patients may need immediate treatment/medication at night as well. If the government submits to doctor’s demands, patients needing treatment at night will be rendered injustice.

What’s more surprising is the fact that Rajasthan government pays the highest fees to its doctors, as compared to other states. Despite that, doctors in all neighbouring states getting lesser pay are sincerely serving the public. But Rajasthan doctors have perhaps been brain-washed with greed for money and other materiality. But most importantly, there is an erosion of humanity in these striking doctors, to say the least.
