Rajasthan bypolls: EVMs to have candidates’ Photos to Ensure Transparency in Voting

    In a move to prevent any mischief by bogus candidates and to ensure transparency in the voting procedure, the Election Commission of India is going to use photographs of the candidates on the electronic voting machines (EVMs). This will help in avoiding any kind of confusion in case the names of any two candidates are similar. Rajasthan bypolls

    Besides, the move will help raise voters’ confidence and will also address to the concerns of Congress party, which often expresses concern over EVMs being prone to tampering. In the upcoming Assembly elections, the voting machines will be having the photograph and names of the candidates along with the symbol of the party. Each of these photos will measure 2.5 cm in size.

    As per Chief Electoral Officer, such EVMs were used earlier in Nanjangud and Gundlupet bypolls last year. Besides, the recently held polls in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh also used EVMs with photographs of the candidates on them.

    In the Rajasthan bypolls, the names of the candidates are going to be classified into three categories. The names will be listed in the alphabetical order starting from those belonging to national parties, followed by regional parties and then the independent or others.

    VVPAT Machines in Voting

    The 2018 Rajasthan bypolls on 29th January will make use of VVPAT machines for the very first time. VVPAT is a term which means Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail which is a verification system to ensure that the votes polled by the voters go to the correct candidate, without any possibility of tampering or mischief.

    This system can actually transfer the opinions of the voters living in outer areas to the respective constituencies where they can be tallied. To ensure everything goes right, the election commission will be tallying the votes cast on the EVMs with the VVPAT printouts in one polling booth. The booth will be selected randomly under each assembly constituencies.

    Preparations and Promotions

    The much awaited Lok Sabha bypolls in Ajmer and Alwar as well as the Assembly elections in Mandalgarh are just one day away and the preparations have been made with utmost care.

    Right from the installation of video cameras to reviewing the arrangement and from meetings to roadshows by star campaigners, the upcoming political fiasco can be very well seen on its peak across the state.  In such a scenario, the authorities are making every possible effort that the voting is carried out with complete security while ensuring transparency.
