Swerving you car to form an 8 on the road won’t be enough to acquire a driver’s license. As per the new rules, the procedure of acquiring licenses has got more tough and complicated. Now applicants will have to qualify not just 1 but 4 different tests on the automated tracks to get a license.

New Automated Tracks

In a bid to make roads safer by reducing number of accidents due to rash driving and to ensure that only skilled drivers get the license, the Transportation Department is going to construct automated driving tracks in 12 RTO and Didwana DTO offices in the state.

This implies that instead of officers examining the drivers, now computers will be responsible for making decision regarding issue of license. In this regard, a tender has been issued and its technical bid will be opened from 13th December. Reportedly, 7 companies have submitted their applications for the tender.

4 tests on Automated Tracks

In order to acquire a permanent license, the applicant will have to arrive at the desired place 45 minutes prior to the allotted time. At first, a 20-minute long class will be conducted on road safety before the trials start. Every RTO would have 5 automated tracks; 1 for two-wheelers and the rest 4 for four-wheelers.

In the first test, the driver will be required to drive the car on the 8-shaped track. In the second test, the vehicle would be required to run it on the H-track. For the third test, the vehicle will be parked in the angular and parallel direction and lastly in the fourth test, the driver will have to move the vehicle uphill in a way that it doesn’t slide back.

The test will be monitored through the cameras and on the basis of the analysis the driver will be given a pass or fail result. After this, the applicant will also be given a letter of analysis.

Cost of the Tracks

RSRDC is responsible for the construction of these automated tracks for which INR 23.66 Crores have been sanctioned. After the completion of the infrastructure, the private firms will complete the installation of cameras and computers on the desired spot.

Fees for the Trial

The trial fee for two-wheelers is INR 100 while for the car owners it’s INR 150. At present, the combined fee is INR 300 but soon it will be INR 250. The amount will remain same for 3 years after which it will be revised to INR 125 for two-wheelers and INR 175 for four-wheelers.
