If things go as planned, the Pink city will soon get rid of piles of marble slurry, medical and municipal waste cluttering areas with high footfall like Sindhi Camp and common waste dumping grounds near Hasanpura, Shastri Nagar, Amanishah nala, etc. The RSPCB (Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board) is determined to get rid of garbage and toxic waste from the city this time. In doing so, the RSPCB is set to introduce the first ‘Centre of Excellence’ for skill development in environmental engineering.
As the city is evolving at a fast pace, waste pileups are becoming a source of major concern for the RSPCB. With time, the waste streams have increased in volumes. Garbage disposed by the urban public has turned more complex and toxic in nature. This is why the RSPCB is determined to find a solution to safe waste disposable.
The current techniques being followed by the municipalities are not sustainable. Though the waste recycling and recovery potential of a few treatment plants is at par with the industry standards. However, if we can reduce the introduction of virgin resources into the waste streams, it’ll be easier to reduce GHG emissions.
How will Centre of Excellence for Pollution Control help Control this Problem
With the upcoming ‘Centre of Excellence’, the government wants to make the youngsters adept in waste reuse, recycling and treatment practices for municipal, medical and hazardous wastes. The centre will train environmental engineering students in safe waste disposal by providing them appropriate theoretical knowledge and training. This will not just help reduce pollution, but also facilitate better management of environmental resources.
Various certification and training programs will be run for students. The government will make special provisions for research and development of new, alternate technologies that are much needed today. The experts will run workshops at national and international level that will help expose the youth to latest practices.
In the first phase, the students will be trained to handle scientific operations in CETP and STP plants. The authorities will make arrangements for proper faculty members for this purpose.
A Tripartite MoU was Signed between 3 Parties to Accomplish this Objective
The RSPCB signed a tripartite agreement with Rajasthan government’s Department of Skills, Employment and Entrepreneurship and ILD (Institute of Leadership Development). The board has already set a corpus fund worth Rs 5 crore for this purpose. Rs 25 lakh will be allotted to the start-ups by the board. This fund will be offered for conversion of waste to resources.
The centre will be set over a vast expanse of land spanning over 33 acres in Jamdoli, Jaipur. Hopefully, this will help the city recover from the age-old problem of unsafe waste disposal in the city. This will hopefully help the government kill two birds with a single stone– encourage women participation and enthuse the youth with new opportunities.
