The Mewar region is gearing up for a complete revamp regime. Raje government has paid close attention to the birthplace of impeccable and reverent warrior, Maharana Pratap.

Close to 25,000 incomplete wells in the tribal sub plan (TSP) will be completed in the Mewar region.

This initiative will be undertaken under the partnership of the rural development and panchayati raj department and the tribal area development department (TAD).

The 25000 walls will be constructed and made, thereby ensuring development in the state of Mewar.

The TSP area comprises districts of Banswara, Dungarpur, Pratapgarh, parts of Udaipur and Sirohi.

Sudarshan Sethi, additional chief secretary, rural development and panchayati raj department said, “The digging of wells, which were taken up under various schemes in the past but remains incomplete, will now be taken up under MGNREGA.”

Sethi also informed that materials will be made available in MGNREGA. An upper cost of Rs 1 lakh has been formulated for these wells.

This is divided as follows: 60% of labour and 40% of material costs would be made available under MGNREGA.

However, the residual amount will be borne by the TAD department, if any.

The tribals living in these areas also expressed their willingness for this change. They said drinking water levels will increase due to this construction.

Not only this, groundwater will also get recharged through this initiative. A slew of other benefits will arise die to this construction.

“This scheme is not meant for deepening existing wells but those that have been abandoned mid-way due to paucity of funds under different schemes,” Sethi said.

A survey is also being conducted to find out how many incomplete wells are actually mounting in the district of Mewar. Although, a figure of 25,000 walls is being reported, rumours and sources say that there are higher possibilities of more uncompleted wells in the area.
