In a horrific incident that took place on Wednesday in Rajasthan, a man was attacked with an axe and then burnt alive over ‘love jihad’. It happened in Rajsamand district of the state where a man named Shambhlal Raigar attacked a labourer from West Bengal named Mohammad Afrazul. After beating the labourer and attacking him with an axe, Raigar poured kerosene on the body and set it ablaze.
The dreadful incident love jihad
The entire incident was captured by the accused himself where he was seen attacking the man and then he also said that those getting involved in Love Jihad would meet the same fate. He also talked about wiping out “Islamic Jihad from Mewar.”
The video clip clearly shows the labourer pleading for mercy and crying for help. It’s quite a brutal and inhumane act that has gone viral on the internet. The video is apparently shot by a third person who was present on the crime scene.
Half-burnt Body found by the Police
As per the media reports, the half burnt body was found near a hotel in Rajsamand on Wednesday. The senior police officials SP Manoj Kumar, ASP Manish Tripathi, and DSP Rajendra Singh reached the crime scene as soon as they received the information about the semi-burnt body.

Later it was confirmed by the police that it was the same body as seen in the viral video. The victim was identified as Mohammad Afrazul, a 48-year old labourer from Malda, West Bengal, who used to live in Rajsamand with his family.
Other objects recovered from crime scene
The crime scene has also been located along with agricultural tool used in the murder and slippers and bike of the victim. In the preliminary investigations, it was revealed that the place where Raigar had shot the video making derogatory statements near a temple, shortly after the murder. The brutal murder was carried out on Dev Heritage Road in Rajnagar area of Rajsamand.
Investigations in the case
Commenting on the incident, Rajasthan Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria has said that it was a shocking incident and also revealed that a special investigation team (SIT) has been formed to probe the case.
A case under Sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the IPC has been registered by the Rajnagar Police Station. As of now, the reports suggest that the accused Shambhulal has been arrested.
The Police have also detained 8 others who are believed to the aides of the attacker and a woman. She is believed to have a link with the entire incident. The video was shot by the nephew of the accused.
Family claiming it a Conspiracy
The family of the labourer murdered in the video is claiming that it’s a conspiracy involving big, influential people. They are also demanding for a death penalty for the accused.
Press Conference
In a press conference held by police department for the media at 2:30 pm, DGP OP Galhotra assured that the convicted man will be punished and justice will be served. He said that it was a pre-meditated, cold-blooded murder aimed at creating a disturbing environment for the society. He also said that such a heinous crime cannot be undertaken by a normal, sane person.
He congratulated the police department to have arrested the man within 24 hours of the crime and also assured that the charge sheet will be filed at its earliest.
Although there are still some revelations to be made, nothing can be confirmed until the investigation is completed. The DGP also insisted the media not to make any pre-conceived notions in the case and wait for the police to complete the investigations, which may take time.
