Jaipur Dhulandi Festival: A beautiful riot of colours

    Jaipur is hosting the most awaited 2017 Dhulandi Festival on March 13. The festival marks the onset of spring and no other city does it like Jaipur. The festival is celebrated in a very special way in Jaipur, where the Department of Tourism organizes an event meant especially for foreign tourists.

    The event is held on the lawns of the Khasa Kothi hotel. There is a variety of performances to amuse the audience and the foreign tourists.

    In the festival, one can witness the Elephant Festival is organised. Natives and travelers from all over the globe come to Jaipur and celebrate this festival at Chaugan Stadium. A huge camp fire is held, according to the traditions and this camp fire is called ‘Holika Dehen’.

    According to Hindu scriptures Holika Dahan, which is also known as Holika Deepak or Chhoti Holi, should be done during Pradosh Kaal (which starts after sunset) while Purnimasi Tithi is prevailing. Bhadra prevails during first half of Purnimasi Tithi and all good work should be avoided when Bhadra prevails.

    On this day, it is believed that people should forgive each other for their misdoings and start on a fresh note. In the evening, people visit each others’ homes, hug and greet each other, share a light conversation and have a great time together.

    The festival of colors which we commonly know as Holi is also called Dhulandi or Dhuleti. The term is used mostly in the Braj regions of Vrindavan and Mathura.

    People indulge in delicacies. They drink Bhaang mixed with Thandai and also smear faces of each eacher with lots of Gulaal and other colours.

    The program is very captivating and attracts many visitors with the elephant polo, tug of war, and a beauty pageant of elephants enchanting every spectator.
