Dev Narayan Scheme: A beacon of hope and motivation for college girls in Rajasthan

While the world has become so fast-paced and tales of urbanization has been cast in the country, we are still struggling with women rights and women equality. The State of Rajasthan is earnestly cruising towards the direction of Girl child education. Amidst all benefits which the state has bestowed upon the state girls, it also formulated a proper scheme driven by the purpose of Girl education. The state government initiated the “Devnarayan Scheme of Distribution of Scooty”. This scheme focuses on the academic progression of girls pursuing under-graduation in their chosen fields.

The scheme commenced in the year 2011-2012. The scheme was operational in two phases. Notably, in the second phase, the government distributed just as double the number of bicycles in comparison to that in the first phase. The government distributed first 500 scooties in the first scheme, while in the second phase of the scheme i.e. 2012-2013, the government distributed 1000 scooties.

This initiative rendered substantial improvements and meaningful results in the field of Girl education.

As a matter of fact, however, amongst all the participant girls, undergraduate girls comprised of largest number of girls.

Under the scheme the girls from Other Backward Category (OBC) who are dwellers of Rajasthan State and are in their first year of under graduation will get scooty at zero cost. Not only this, the girls who are in their second or third year or pursuing post-graduation studies of under graduation will get scholarship.

Benefits of Devnarayan Scheme over a period:

• Scooty in their first year: Girls studying in their first year of graduation (bachelors) will get scooty on applying for the scheme from the colleges registered with any government organizations like NAAC, Universities, etc.

This scheme encompasses only Gurjar/Gujjar female students as beneficiaries.

• Scholarship to 2^nd& 3^rd year student: Other girls who are in their 2^nd and 3^rd year of bachelors will get  10,000 scholarship per year
• Scholarship to girls in P.courses: Girls who are in their post-graduation courses will be getting  20, 000 per year
• Girls education promotion in OBC category: With this scheme girl education got importance and hence even girls from OBC category are getting education from good institutes.

Eligibility for Devnarayan Scheme of Distribution of Scooty:

1. Girl falling in the category of OBC (Gurjar/ Gujjar)
2. Rajasthan State resident
3. In her HSC examination, girl student must have obtained above 50% of marks.
4. Girl’s family’s annual income must not be more than Rs. 2 Lakhs

For the purpose of scholarship, the girl student should have scored atleast 55% marks in her last examination.

Documents Required:

1. Application form
2. Previous year marksheets
3. Residential Proof (electricity bill, water connection bill, gas connection bill, ration card, voter id, Aadhar card, pan card or driving license)
4. Aadhar Card
5. Passport size photograph (min 2 copies)
6. Family’s/Guardian’s Income Certificate
7. Bank passbook having (bank name, branch name, account holder name, account number, IFSC & MICR code)

Application form:
