“Lord Krishna was born in U.P. and made Gujarat his karmbhoomi (land of work). I was born in Gujarat and U.P. has adopted me. Uttar Pradesh is my baap. I am not the son who would betray his mai baap. You have adopted me and it is my duty to work for you,” Modi stated during his speech, made at Hardoi.

Following this speech, Prime Minister was served with a notice by the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights. This was imminent from a speech and claim of such sorts. However, there is immense pride I personally take in Modi ‘s statement. We are all children of this land called India. And thus, the PM was no wrong in tagging himself as UP’s son. It is an affectionate expression towards the state.

Modi’s adorable speech and the notice following it would have seemed to terminate the scene. But this story didn’t end here.

A 79-year-old Modinagar resident, Yogender Pal Singh who lives in Patla village with his septuagenarian wife, Atar Kali, on February 21, filed adoption papers at the office of the deputy registrar of Ghaziabad.

To Yogi’s dismay, his application was promptly rejected. When asked what he feels about the rejection, he said “he is ‘hurt’.”

He added, “I have no political agenda”. He said my only wish is to adopt Narendra Modi as my son.

Interestingly, Yogi boasts of spending a considerable time in politics. Not only this, the 79 year old man was also sent behind the bars for as many as 19 months during a period of Emergency. At the time he was jailed, he held the position of district president of the Lok Dal.

In 1980, Yog contested the assembly elections from Muradnagar on a ticket offered by Dalit Mazdoor Kisan Party headed by Chaudhary Charan Singh. Chaudhary Charan Singh is believed to have left a huge impact on Yog’s life.

Yogi, a Jat now invests his time in the village after having retired from active politics. He and his wife have four children — Ajit, Ajay and Arun and Manju. While sons, Ajit, Ajay and Arun are employed in various medium-level jobs. Manju, his daughter is married to Raja Verma, who is the president of the UP state unit of BJP’s Kisan Morcha.
