    The results of the bypolls held on 4 Lok Sabha seats and 10 Assembly seats across the country are finally out leading to the anticipations of the political environment ahead of the 2019 General elections.  While BJP couldn’t succeed in securing more seats, the biggest winner that has emerged in these polls is the United Opposition. Bypoll Results

    The elections were held for 4 Lok Sabha seats in states namely Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Nagaland. In these bypolls, RLD (Rashtriya Lok Dal) leader Tabbassum Begum emerged as the winner from UP’s Kairana while Nagaland’s seat has been secured by BJP’s ally NDPP. Talking about Maharashtra, BJP won the Palghar seat while the Bhandara-Gondia seat has been won by NCP (Nationalist Congress Party).

    Talking about the bypolls on Assembly seats, it was held for 10 seats in 9 states namely Bihar (Jokihat), Jharkhand (Gomia and Silli), Kerala (Chengannur), Uttar Pradesh (Noorpur), Uttarakhand (Tharali), Maharashtra (Palus Kadegaon), Meghalaya (Ampati), Punjab (Shahkot), and West Bengal (Maheshtala). Besides, results pending for the Rajarajeshwari Nagar consitituency were also declared.

    Who Won what? Bypoll Results

    Out of the 10 seats, Congress secured victory in 4 seats at Maharashtra’s Palus Kadegaon, Meghalaya, Karnataka, and Punjab. Kerala seat was won by CPM by a huge margin, RJD won a seat in Bihar’s Jokihat and Samajwadi Party won the Noorpur assembly seat in UP.

    In West Bengal, Trinamool Congress candidate Dulal Das emerged as the winner while both the seats of Jharkhand have been secured by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. Uttarakhand seat has been retained by BJP leader Munni Devi who has defeated Congress candidate Jeetram by more than 1900 votes.

    Although the 2019 elections are yet to be dated, several anticipations can be made from the results. Apparently, the alliances are getting maximum benefit this time which is a sign that BJP and Congress both need to be ready for the upcoming polls.  

    Especially in states like Bihar and UP, parties like SP and RJD have been enjoying power from a long time and BJP will have to work it out to make its way to the voters. Similarly in West Bengal, Trinamool Congres is a big challenge for BJP Bypoll Results
