Asaram Bapu has been found guilty of raping a minor girl at his ashram in Manai near Jodhpur. The victim had lodged complain against Asaram Bapu. The case was highlighted and Asaram got arrested in year 2013. Till the several bail pleas have been made but all were rejected. Final verdict came on 25th April, 2018 and he has been found guilty. IPC 376 D (Rape)
Intercourse by any member of the management or staff of a hospital with any woman in that hospital.—Whoever, being on the management of a hospital or being on the staff of a hospital takes advantage of his position and has sexual intercourse with any woman in that hospital, such sexual intercourse not amounting to the offence of rape, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to five years and shall also be liable to fine.
IPC 354 A (Outraging the modesty of a woman)
Whoever assaults or uses criminal force to any woman, intending to outrage or knowing it to be likely that he will thereby outrage her modesty, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both.
IPC 506 (Criminal intimidation)
Whoever commits, the offence of criminal intimidation shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both; If threat be to cause death or grievous hurt, etc.—And if the threat be to cause death or grievous hurt, or to cause the destruction of any property by fire, or to cause an offence punishable with death or 1[imprisonment for life], or with imprisonment for a term which may extend to seven years, or to impute, unchastity to a woman, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to seven years, or with fine, or with both.
IPC 109 (Abetment to an offence)
Punishment of abetment if the act abetted is committed in consequence and where no express provision is made for its punishment.—Whoever abets any offence shall, if the act abetted is committed in consequence of the abetment, and no express provision is made by this Code for the punishment of such abetment, be punished with the punishment provided for the offence.
The acts committed by self-styled godman Asaram Bapu and others are disgusting. It shows that how these self-proclaimed Godman fool people and take undue advantage of their belief and innocence. His followers are upset with his sentence. It is important for people to get over their blind faith.
