Although every day is an Environment Day, yesterday was grand. The World Environment Day was celebrated in a multiplicity of ways yesterday. NGO’s and individuals came forward to make their contributions. Saplings were planted across the city.

“Over 5,000 saplings were planted with CISF to mark the day. The green cover of Jaipur is fast depleting and is a major cause of concern for all of us. It is not only affecting the green cover but also many animals are struggling to survive,” said environmentalist, Vishnu Lamba, of Shree Kalptaru Sansthan.

The World Environment Day spewed a beautiful theme: “Connecting People to Nature”. A galaxy of organizations manifested their intention to plant saplings in the Jaipur city. Such activities are not limited to a single day but consistent efforts open the door for immense improvement in the current situation of affairs.

Not only plants, even animals were given due regard on this special day. People for animals conducted a noble drive of providing and feeding drinking water to stray animals. “The soaring temperature is equally harmful to the animals. It changes their behavioural pattern leading them to conflict with humans. The indiscriminate killing of trees for development has left no space for stray animals to take refuge during the sweltering heat,” said Sahil Singhal.

Cycle rally demonstrations were also held in Ajmer with an objective to send out a strong message about environment protection. “World should unite for conservation of environment. It is high time that we should work together for the clean and green future,” said Kawal Prakash Kishnani, a social activist based in Ajmer.

This day didn’t only involve middle-aged individuals and organisations, students too soaked in the day’s spirit. Students from various schools took this opportunity to channelise their love for Mother Earth.  Students made various paintings which were aimed at increasing awareness about the program.

Zahida Shabnam, an environmental activist said, “Over 600 students from various schools participated in the various competitions and awareness programs for the conservation of the Environment”.
