Not only this, the 52-page magazine also stated the importance of playing with children on a daily basis. It also suggested that laughing activity for about 15 minutes is also very good for health. Another important suggestion was to consider meals as “Prasad” and have it peacefully.

The title of the page read: “Swastha Rehne ke Saral Upaay” and enlisted 14 simple suggestions to stay fit and healthy.

Women are not lagging behind men: Chief Editor of Shivira

Admitting the error, Nathmal Didel, Director of Secondary Education and theRajasthan government magazine chief editor, told the Hindustan Times newspaper that including the domestic activities should not have been mentioned in the magazine as exclusively for women.

On being asked about the suggestions, Nathmal Didel, who is also Chief Editor of the magazine stated that “the activities suggested in the magazine are just suggestions. They are also effective means of physical exercise. I don’t think women are lagging behind men in any manner, they are equally competent. The intention of the department was never to undermine women,” he added. Didel is also the Director of Secondary Education Department.

“The magazine is an ongoing training platform for teachers, an ongoing conversation, an education journal, and that was the idea when it was initiated by (educationist and Padma Bhushan recipient) IAS officer Anil Bordia several years ago,” Kavita Srivastava, People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) state president said.

The inclusion of such articles and suggestions indicate the purpose of the magazine and what it stands for. The magazine will break stereotypes and empower and inspire people.

Rajasthan government magazine Shivira is widely published for teachers, however, anyone can purchase it for Rs 15. It also includes all the developments at the department.

An attempt by Rajasthan Govt to empower women

The Rajasthan government is devising newer and innovative ways of empowering women to become their best version. With this publication, Rajasthan government has proved that it wants its women to be healthy. It also reflected highly on the daily chores like churning curd, mopping the floor, etc. Usually, these chores are treated as low-market and are avoided by women. The government attempted to diffuse the taboo and rather instigated women to perform these chores. The bigger message, however, was that women must take charge of their own health. Looks like the message has done its magic as teachers have started performing these chores and become more adamant about improving their health.
