Rajasthan education minister Vasudev Devnani is braced up for bigger challenges in education system. In last three years, successful efforts by Rajasthan government yielded positive results in government schools. 13 lakh children were enrolled in Rajasthan government schools—biggest achievement in the history of state till now. Many cases involved transfers from private to government schools that came as a pleasant surprise for many. Having achieved this landmark, Devnani has set a target of 10 lakh admissions this year. How does he plan to do so: by finding ways to attract more children to schools in rural regions of Rajasthan.

Rajasthan’s shoe distribution program, a courtesy of Akshay Patra foundation is a positive step in this direction. The program was flagged off by Parliamentary secretary Suresh Rawat and Minister Vasudev Devnani this Friday. In an event held at Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education auditorium, it was announced that the foundation will distribute new school shoes to 16,000 needy students residing in Ajmer and neighboring villages.

The idea is to generate awareness regarding personality development, body hygiene and school decorum. The program aims at improving overall health and well-being of school going children by inculcating good habits in them. Minister Devnani informed the media that ‘Shoe distribution’ is one of the efforts by government to create conducive environment for government school children.

To lure more children into receiving formal school education, Rajasthan education department had made positive amendments to existing schools. ‘Aadarsh Vidyalayas’ based on Vivekanand models, with furnished classrooms, labs, playground and smart rooms were introduced to facilitate proper learning in students.

The government had revamped mid-day meal program to resolve malnutrition and hunger issues in children belonging to BPL families. Course books were revised and a new NCERT app was introduced for parents and students. Further, the authorities will introduce new school uniforms so that students realize the importance of school dress. Proper dressing is imperative for developing self-confidence in students, which is why it’s necessary to make them understand the importance of school uniforms.

Revamping school dress, distributing shoes, delivering quality education and introducing fun activities in schools will develop a healthy competitive streak in children. Thus, they’ll be able to excel amidst cut-throat competition existing in the outside world.
