Rajasthan government announces 730 days of child care leave

The Rajasthan government issued relief for the women of the state as they announced a liberal two years child care leave (CCL) for women employees.

This rule was followed by an amendment in the Rajasthan Service Rules by the order of the Governor. As per the new rule, each and every women employee will now get child care leave for a maximum period of two years (730 days) during their service life for taking care of two eldest children. Not only can these leaves be used for pregnancy-centric purposes, but also for purposes such as prolonged illness, examination etc.

How and when can women take leave?

Women whose children are below 18 years of age can take leaves. Nonetheless, if the children are disabled (minimum disability of 40 percent), the age limit can be extended to 22 years. However, as per norms, the leave will be granted only after the dependency of the disabled child is submitted.

How is CCL a benison for all state women?

The new rule maintains the sanctity of the corporate world. It is mandatory to remunerate the women with the same emoluments as were just before her going for leave.

Unlike other leaves, the CCL cannot be claimed as a matter of right. In other words, CCL is granted to those women who are authorized to remain absent.

One sour aspect in all this sweetness is that the authority can dissent the application citing reasons of smooth business operations, etc.

Special Conditions

This rule is prevalent for employees and not probationary officer. However, if under special circumstances, probationary officers are granted the leave, their probation period is extended. Also, this wont be termed as CCL but privilege leave.

The process is easy for those who want to take leaves for examination and illness of a minor. All they have to do is obtain a certificate issued by the educational institution. Alongside the reason of leave, the women must also apprise the education deparrment of how the minor child will be looked into.

This development can also be considered in the wake of the central government’s similar decision in the sixth pay commission. It is a move which is constructive to the health of the women and will also ensure a proper work-life balance for both work and family.
