    Although India has made remarkable progress after independence by demolishing several evil practices and traditions to great extent, these practices are required to be eradicated completely. One of such evil practice is child marriage. It is like a curse to the nation. This practice has ruined numerous bright childhood. Girls have been denied from their right of education and enjoying happy and healthy childhood. Rather they have been forced for married at tender age. Undoubtedly, boys also face the repercussions of child marriage but girls suffer more.

    Child marriage is a marriage where either the woman is below age 18 or the man is below age 21. There are several states in the country where child marriage is quite rampant. One of such states is desert state Rajasthan. Recently, an incident came out about child marriage in Bikaner. But, this girl Monica smartly saved herself.

    She is a 13 year old girl Monica who not saved herself but also opened the pathway for many girls like her to stand for themselves and ask for their rights. It was during the time of her marriage, she had taken help of Child Welfare Centre and made a complaint about her parents. Due to the efforts of Preeti Yadav, a surveillance officer of child marriage and her team, Monica’s wedding had been stopped at the right time. Well.. this girl needs an ovation. This act of hers also made her parents realized their mistakes. Her parents made a promise not to get her married before legal age of 18 years.

    Only the efforts of Rajasthan Government are not sufficient for fighting any evil. People have to be conscious of side-effects of child marriage and take action against it. Rajasthan government is thankful to Monica and it requires more Monica for Rajasthan to fully eradicate child marriages.
