    For the welfare of women, the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Vasundhara Raje made some announcements in budget 2017-18. In that budget, she announced that the hike in pension to old widows would be doubled. Under this, women above 60 years of age will receive pension between Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 while widows above 75 years will get Rs 750 to Rs 1,500. But, these old widows did not receive the hike even their names are on the old age pension list. This made government to resolve this matter of pension.

    There are cases where it is found that women receive the hike. There are instances where old widows are not getting that hiked pension. Even they are not aware of this hike in pension given by state government to old widows.

    As per the government records, many women were dead. Hence, many women from Rajasthan also travelled to Delhi to prove that they are not dead. In fact, the women who are receiving the pension are not getting the amount announced in the budget.

    Prakash Sirshat, Bhim’s block development officer, said: “We will hold a camp and take stock of widows still on the old age list. I am no longer the officer responsible for this.”

    The best way to resolve this problem is to get the list of old widows rectified. For that, it is important to appeal to government officials to publish verified pension rolls. When the public have free access to the pension rolls then the anomalies in the list of widows could be corrected. This will make the whole process easy. In fact, the task can be easily done with the government’s IT prowess.
