    Rajasthan has often been known as the state with a troublesome plight for girl child owing to the social evil of female foeticide and lack of education for female students. However, the state is striving towards making itself a delightful place for young girls through various government schemes like Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Rajhsri Yojna, etc.

    Sex Ratio of Rajasthan

    As per the latest reports, it has been revealed that Rajasthan has been able to achieve a great feat of jumping from a low sex ratio to a healthy one. In the last 6 years, the child sex ratio of the state has taken a leap from 888 in 2011 to a healthy 925. Since 2013, the state government has launched as many as 30 schemes so as to support and encourage birth of girl child.

    Sex Ratio of Districts

    Rajasthan’s 14 districts are included under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao mission out of which 10 have gained a healthy sex ratio amounting to more than 950. Talking about Jhunjhunu, where PM Modi is expected to launch his pet scheme of National Nutrition Mission, has achieved the sex ratio of 952 as opposed to the earlier figure of 837, since 2011.

    Celebration of birth of Girl child

    There are various examples of villages in Rajasthan where the birth of a girl child is celebrated and is marked by the distribution of sweets. In Dausa, the celebration takes place by beating a bronze thali and sweets distribution. While in Lohawat Gram Panchayat in Kota district, a fruit bearing tree is planted and the family of the girl child is honored on Independence and Republic Day.

    Government Schemes

    In order to encourage the birth of girl child and help people realize that it’s not a misfortune, government offers monetary aid to the beneficiaries at every stage of the girl’s life. Right from her education to her marriage and till she becomes a mother, the government has rolled out schemes covering the entire spectrum of females’ requirements and rights. Some of these schemes are:

    • Rajshree Yojna has been introduced whereby the girls’ parents are given INR 50,000 in installments beginning from her birth till she completes her school education.
    • Medhavi girl scooty vitran scheme relates to the distribution of free scooty to girls who have secured more than 75% in Class 12 and distribution of cycles for Class 9 girls.
    • The government provides 30% quota for women in govt jobs.
    • The girl from a BPL family gets INR 10,000 for her marriage but if she has studied till Class 10, the money is tripled and quadruples if she is a graduate.
    • The government has also floated the Mukhbir scheme INR 2 Lakh is rewarded on informing on someone getting a sex determination of the foetus.
