This Sunday was not a usual Sunday for the Jaipur sanitation staff who was taken to the popular movie theatre to watch the much talked about film – ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’.

The municipal corporation of Jaipur took its sanitation and sweeping staff to the Akshay Kumar movie.

Not only the cleaning staff but the corporation also invited residents of nearby slums.

Many municipal corporations across Rajasthan followed the footsteps of JMC. The same practice was followed in other cities of the desert state which treated their sanitation staff with the movie.

A slew of local self-governance and municipal bodies spread across the state-sponsored the movie-featuring to their staff which has been essentially deprived of this facility.

The main agenda behind showing this movie is to bring about a paradigm shift in the thinking of these workers.

In the wake of sanitation drive (Swachchta Abhiyan), the movie aims at spreading awareness about the evils of not favoring a toilet at homes. It also focuses on the hardships women have to face at homes sans toilets.

The special movie screening is believed to be initiated on request by city mayor and BJP member Ashok Lahoti.

“As for the municipal staff, the movie reminds them of their importance in bringing social change,” Lahoti said. “It’s entertaining and associates them with the sanitation mission of ‘Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje in the state,” he added.

Throught this drive in Rajasthan, over 1500 people have watched the movie, a number which is expected to scale up in the coming days.

While Akshay Kumar’s films are bang on, when it comes to penetrating the good deeds in one’s life, the authorities were in a win-win situation on funding this movie for the staff. The initiative is premised on the fact that films play a fundamental role in influencing lives of the commoners.
