    Rajasthan Government and Gurjar Protests

The decision to give reservation came as a result of continuous agitation of Gurjar community. They have forcefully taken the status of Special Backward Class. The protests had been started in year 2006 and in 2008, Rajasthan government passed a Bill creating special quotas for Gujjars and others (5%) but did not get implemented. The other communities involved other than Gurjars are Gadias, Lohars, Rebaris and Banjars.

Why the reservation has not been given earlier?

It is said that 1 percent reservation could have been given before. But the gurjars community demanded for 5 percent.  To fulfill the reservation demand of Gujjars, the state government of Rajasthan had tried thrice to find a workable solution. But due to non-compliance with the reservations regulations, the proposals had not been approved by the court.
