‘Won’t Tolerate Distortion of Indian History’ says Education Minister Devnani
Without taking iconic Bollywood director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s name, Rajasthan education minister Vasudev Devnani sent a strong message across with his declaration. According to Devnani, any film projecting Rani Padmini and Ala-Ud-Din Khilji’s love story was a manipulation of history done by phony writers—a negligence on the part of previous government. The ruling government won’t tolerate the propagation of distorted historical facts in the name of tourism and entertainment. Devnani’s comments on Bhansali are seen as an endorsement by the authorities of the assault on Padmavati cast.
Devnani Introduces New ‘Reforms’ at School Level
- New Chapter on Emergency
Recently, the state education minister has revised the history textbooks for school children. They’ve included new ‘Indian-culture centric’, ‘value-based’ chapters on Indian history, such as a lesson on emergency. If Devnani is to be believed, the chapter has been included to educated younger generations on MISA (Maintenance of Internal Security Act) prisoners. Defending his stance, Devnani said ‘The government should declare the MISA prisoners as freedom fighters since they struggled for a democratic country’.
- Surya Namaskar for Better Health
Recently, a few opposition leaders took a dig on Devnani for including Surya Namaskar in early morning assembly in the schools. The leader was quick to respond to the haters. Targeting the opponents he said that the sun is as sacred as the moon and daily exposure to sun rays creates positive vibration in students, which is why Surya Namaskar has been included as a part of this curriculum.
- Sanskar Sabha to Whet Talents
Out of all the announcements, Devnani’s Sanskar Sabha seems a practical thing that will enhance creative talents of young school-going kids. This special ‘extra co-curricular session’ will be organized every Saturday, wherein the kids will get a chance to express their know-how of English, Sanskrit and Hindi via debates, speech and extempore.
- Travel Vouching Scheme for Girls
Rajasthan government announced a travel voucher from class I-XII. An annual voucher worth Rs 800 will be issued to cover travel expenses of girls studying in integrated Adarsh and Utkarsh schools. The amount will be credited into their accounts for educational field trips.
While we do believe it’s essential to impart factual information to the kids, doing it just for the sake of demeaning others isn’t right. We do appreciate Devnani’s efforts for improving the academic system however his inflammatory speech diminishes the true intent behind his actions.
