In the Rajya Sabha on Monday, Mansukh L Mandaviya, Minister of state for road transport and highways, shipping, chemical, and fertilizers said in written that the government has allocated a total sum of Rs 2314.22 crore towards the construction of national highways in the last five years. The data on this allocation was also released. In 2012-13, Rs 12.24 crores have been allocated. In 2014, however, about 215 crores were allocated in 2014. Next, in 2015, the investment dipped to Rs 107.16 crores but no more  – there was a spurt in allocation in 2016, when the government allocated a sum of Rs. 849.95 crore and then a sum of Rs 1015.37 in the following year. Rajasthan Development of Highways

The amounts discussed above were allocated towards the construction of highways. The minister said that additional amounts were allocated towards the maintenance and repair of highways. The longest highway was made for Pathankot- Ganganagar-Bikaner- Jaisalmer- Barmer- Kandala covering districts like Ganganagar, Hanumangarh-Bikaner. Jaisalmer and Barmer. The government has made various other allocations for the construction of development of state roads. The allocation was made under the Central Road Fund (CRF) Scheme and Economic Importance and Inter-State Connectivity (EI& ISC). This amount was focussed towards building the non-rural roads. The allocations were made in accordance with the CRF Act. 2000 amended by the Finance Act from time to time.
