Rajasthan is a green-less and sand dunes equipped state. For 8 months in a year, the state has it all hot and full of scorching winds. But, here we don’t want to talk about the same old but the odd one out. One man is behind the mission of bringing a transformation and fight with the nature.

He truly epitomizes this notion, “Be the change you wish to see around you”.

Sensing the grave need of nature conservation with constant climatic changes in the world, he decided to fasten the seat belts and do the needful.

Starting in the year 2003 from his college campus, it has been 11 years to his sapling plantation regime. Shyam Sundar Jyani, the assistance professor at the government college of Bikaner is putting efforts with his students to paint a green Rajasthan.

He even advocated concepts like Familial Forestry and Budding and tried to imply them in his work. With his immense and one direction efforts, he has managed to restore the biodiversity of the region. People around this area saw a lifestyle upliftment.

He formulated the concept of familial forestry in the year 2006. Under this, villagers were requested to plant fruit trees and treat them just like their family members. Here, fruit trees are intelligently added to the regime because this way they add to the environment and also get fruits to add to their diet.

Shyam explains, “During a camp visit near a village called Himmtasar, we found that with an exception of 8 to 10 trees, the entire region had no trees”.

He convinced them enough that trees can also play extensive part in food and fodder and not just in shading. Till this date, they have planted 6,25,000 saplings in total in an area of 15-20 gram panchayats. This covered almost 2,500 villages which were drought prone areas of the state.

He jollily mentions, “Though the government has recognised our efforts, so far all the funding that goes behind the drives comes at my own expense. I take my time off during the vacation breaks at the college and go across the state where more people can be made aware about the necessity of environment conservation”.

He further added, “We ask villagers to not throw away the seeds after eating fruits. All that it takes is a little care and you have a family member for life who will remain by your side through thick and thin”.
