The circulation of fake news, suspicious advertisements and paid news in the print and electronic media as well as on social media will be put under sharp monitoring during the Lok Sabha elections in Rajasthan. Several committees have been formed to keep a watch on such instances.

Additional Chief Electoral Officer Joga Ram said here that the Media Certification and Monitoring Committees would be formed in all the 33 districts under the District Election Officers. He said pre-certification was mandatory for political parties and candidates for advertising in electronic media and e-papers. It was not required for releasing advertisements to newspapers, he said.

The State-level committees, which will look through the contents of news stories to check if they fall in the category of paid or fake news, have been established in coordination with the State government’s Information & Public Relations Department. This exercise will also help to control the violation of the Model Code of Conduct in the state.
