Lt Ummer Fayaz had gone to his relative’s residence in the Shopian district to attend a wedding.

The Indian Army statement said: “In a dastardly act, some unidentified terrorists abducted and then killed a young, unarmed Army Officer, Lt Ummer Faiyaz who had come on leave to his native place in Kulgam to attend a marriage. The officer was serving as Kashmiri Army officer at Akhnoor, J&K. The Army salutes the braveheart and stands by the bereaved family and commits to bring the perpetrators of this heinous act of terror to justice.”

Kashmiri Army officer Lt Ummer Fayaz who was commissioned in the Indian Army in December 2016 was born on June 8, 1994, was posted with 2 Rajputana Rifles in Akhnoor.

The police officials have become more alert and vigil in the wake of multiple incidents which took place in the recent past.

Army men are exposed to the peril of death on a continual basis at the border area. However, this incident is a barbaric incident which only mirrors the shrewdness and callousness of militants.

Let alone the border, army men are now prone to death outside and besides the army area. Militants are spying over Indian army men with the only intention of killing them.

This is not just provocation of serious order, it is also a reflection of the massive amount of angst which militants have bottled up in themselves against India. That angst gets vented through such despicable acts inflicted on the Indian army.
