“Let us Celebrate the Birth of Every Girl Child. We should be Equally Proud of our Daughters” – PM Narendra Modi…

Following the basic mantra—“Beta Beti, Ek Samaan”, PM Narendra Modi led central government launched its ambitious, daughter-centric scheme Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao yojana (BBBP) on 22nd January, 2015. The idea was to address social challenges, cope with the declining CSR (child sex ratio) in India and empower Indian women, especially our daughters. In time, various states joined this tripartite endeavor run by the HRD (Human Resource Development), Ministry of Health & Family welfare and Ministry of women & child development. For a state that has its foundation based on patriarchal traditions, surprisingly, Rajasthan was the biggest patron of the center’s efforts for women empowerment.

Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme

The desert state of India has witnessed heart-wrenching atrocities towards women, such as Sati Pratha, Jauhar, child marriages and ‘Pardah’ in past. With changing times, Raje led Rajasthan government introduced power feminist schemes like Shubhlakshmi, Rajshree, Bhamashah, Mukhbir and Aashray etc. to provide a secure, progressive platform for overall growth of females in Rajasthan. Resultantly, in last three years, Rajasthan attained a better child sex ratio (938 females per 1000 males) under the watchful eye of a visionary CM. To accomplish this Herculean goal, the authorities generated awareness through various means including educational camps, social media campaigns and congratulatory letters sent by the CM to the proud parents of a daughter.

This Time, it’s Jodhpur Postal Region that Stepped Forward to Reinforce Government’s Daughter-Centric Initiatives…

Recently, the Jodhpur postal region attempted to cover maximum girls under Centre’s Beti Bachao Beti Padhao yojana by spreading this message state-wide. They encouraged parents to open bank accounts in the name of their daughters in villages. Since the inception of this scheme, Jodhpur postal region covered nearly 54 villages in Rajasthan. With every daughter having a personal bank account in each family, these villages were listed on ‘Sampoorn Sukanya Samriddhi Village’ list.

According to Mr. Krishna Kumar Yadav (Director of Postal Services in Western region), Rajasthan postmen approached those mothers who’ve given birth to girl child in last three years. So far, they’ve opened up 1.5 lakh accounts in Jodhpur region. The families residing in 54 Jodhpur villages have deposited Rs. 77 crores in bank accounts—a commendable accomplishment for Rajasthan state.

Now, Rajasthan postal department is set on educating the villages regarding benefits of bank investments. They’re hopeful their efforts will create a bright and prosperous future for every girl child in Rajasthan.
