Rajasthan emerged as a big winner on April 22 when the JEE Mains results were announced. Rajasthan bagged the third position in the number of students who qualified for JEE Advanced, according to data released by IIT.

According to the data, maximum IIT passed belonged to Uttar Pradesh, which was followed by Maharashtra in the second position.

The coveted course of IIT has got many students burn their midnight oil. It is tough to clear the entrance exam and even if one clears the entrance exam, a few students either drop out or pursue some other degree as the degree demands high focus and attention.

The percentage of students from the state who appeared for the exam was less than 5% of the total candidates, but the success rate is close to 11%, the sources said.

Of the 1.74 lakh candidates who qualified for JEE Advanced, 20,438 are from Rajasthan. This includes 17,688 boys and 2,750 girls.

The Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) bagged the fourth spot for sending the maximum number of students to IITs.

Megha Chaudhary, secretary of RBSE, said, “Our science stream syllabus is prepared not only to crack board exams but also national-level exams. We have been making changes as and when required in tandem with the fast changing science concepts.”

The state students have secured brilliant scores to enter the merit list. Out of the top 10 students in the IIT-JEE list, 3 students belong to Rajasthan. The natioanl topper Kalpit Veerwal also hails from Udaipur in Rajasthan.

States like Telengana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu which are kniown for their steallr IT infrastructure and training have also lagged behind Rajasthan.

Kota coaching institutions have also been given credit for the success of Kota students. “The state government is sponsoring 100 students from a branch of a Kota coaching major in Jaipur. The Central government has also put forward a proposal to coach for free 100 students with disabilities to a Kota coaching major. This clearly indicates that the Centre and state have realized that the coaching centers make a difference in producing results,” a Coching Institute owner said.
