Jaipur City Transport Service Limited will become 'intelligent' This Year

Rajasthan government has lately been on a spree to make things ‘smart’ and ‘intelligent.’ After remodeling cities and villages, now, they have Jaipur city’s public transport system on their to-do-list. Jaipur Metro and city buses haven’t generated any revenues so far. Therefore, the government is on a mission to recover JMC (Jaipur Metro Corporation) and JCTSL Buses (Jaipur City Transport Service Limited) from monumental losses. They will introduce a smart transport system to achieve this target.

The government will launch a Smart Passenger Information System (SPIS) under the Smart City Mission to eliminate the shortcomings in public transport industry. Read on to know more about ‘smart transport’ features.

Once the SPIS get on board, travelers will get detailed transport information regarding the bus schedule, seat availability and current location through a mobile app. This facility is available in case of RSRTC buses, but the JMC and JCTSL will get this option for the first time, to the passenger’s relief.

A JSML officer confirmed this announcement today. According to the sources, the passengers wait for information at bus stops. The transport department will soon launch an app with Journey Planner. It will provide static information on routes, arrival/departure time of the buses and real-time location of the vehicle. The project may cost around Rs 21.12 crores.

The authorities already opened bids for this project. Many companies have forwarded their proposals, and they’ll hand over the tender once they complete the assessment process. As of now, they will integrate cab, metro, and bus services. They might rope in auto rickshaws and taxis in future. In short, they’ll create a high-tech e-transport network similar to what Uber and Ola has been running so far.

Users have to provide ‘pickup and drop’ locations to search for a transport on their routes. This smart app will also provide alternate routes, the frequency of vehicle, timings and bus fare on selected routes.
