
India conducted it’s first firing of an anti-ship missile from the maiden indigenously built Kalvari class submarines. This was conducted during a test firing in the Arabian Sea.
During the trial firing, the missile successfully hit a surface target at extended ranges.
All six Kalvari class submarines being built in India will be equipped with this anti-ship missile, which has a proven record in combating major attacks in water.
Not only will these missiles provide submarines the ability to combat surface threats at extended ranges, but will also the Indian Navy’s sub-surface warfare capability.
Notably, all six Kaveri class submarines which have been built in India will be equipped with effective materials to bolster the warfare capacity of these submarines. At this juncture of global security, India is stepping up constantly towards ensuring that India has an empowered and strong warfare arms ready in it’s stock. These missiles will also strengthen Indian navy’s sub-surface warfare capacity.
In a series of Scorpene class submarines being built in India, the Kalvari is another big accomplishment in the journey of India’s defense system. Kalvari is the notable the first in the series of Scorpene class submarines.
“The missile successfully hit a surface target at an extended range during the trial firing. This missile launch is a significant milestone, not only for the Kalvari, which is the first in a series of Scorpene class submarines being built in India, but also in enhancing the Indian Navy’s sub-surface warfare capability,” the ministry said.
The submarines have been designed by French naval defence and energy company DCNS. However, their place of manufacturing in India itself. These submarines are being built by Mazagon Dock Ltd in Mumbai.
“The missile successfully hit a surface target at extended ranges during the maiden firing this morning,” an official statement said.
