Gurudas Kamat furnished his resignation as general secretary in-charge of Gujarat which was given a nod by the Congress high command.

Ashok Gehlot lucked out after Gurudas Kamat’s unceremonious resignation for the position of AICC general secretary. The former Chief Minister of Rajasthan has been catching flies after being shown strong dejection in the 2013 elections and following elections including the Uttar Pradesh and the Delhi Municipality elections.

As the Modi wave has swept thoroughly across the nation, the public showed immense denial for Congress in the major assembly and municipality elections. This is comprehended as the sole reason for losing interest of Congress workers in the party.

On Thursday, the Congress replaced Mr Kamat with former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot as general secretary in-charge of Gujarat. He had been offered the charge for Rajasthan but Kamat refused to take this onus on his shoulders.

“Am truly grateful but suprised that the AICC spokesman yesterday announced that I continue to be the general secretary in charge of Rajasthan,” Mr Kamat said in a statement.

Kamat earlier locked horns with Mumbai Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam and general secretary in-charge of Maharashtra Mohan Prakash, men who forced Kamat to announce his unwillingness to stay aloof from the Mumbai civic polls.

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi later sent former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda for reconciliation of differences between the men, but to no avail.

Kamat also expressed his feelings in a letter addressed to the Congress president Sonia Gandhi. He wrote, “I had written to you ‘my heart is not in the job any more”. Please relieve me from Rajasthan and other positions also.”

Congress has left Mr. Kamat in disarray, sources suggest. The veteran politician had resigned from all party posts in June last year. However, on serious request from Gandhi, Kamat resumed office as the general secretary of the AICC. Reportedly, Kamat has resigned from all posts in the party.
