The verdict of 16 year old rape case by Godman Asaram Bapu has finally come out. He was charged with rape of 16 year old girl and he was imprisoned since 2013. There are four other people who are accused in the case. Jodhpur court finally convicted him in rape case. Out of other four accused, two are convicted and other two are acquitted. The verdict has been declared in Jodhpur central Jail premises in which Asaram is lodged. It is happened as there are possibilities of violence by Bapu’sfollowers.
Punishment to Asaram and other two convicts
Court has fined Asaram and other two with Rs 1 Lakh each. Godman Asaram has been sentenced life imprisonment while other two accused to 20 years in prison each.
People’s reaction on the Godman’s case verdict
As the verdict came out, Asaram Bapu burst into tears. He could not hide his pain. Now, he has to spend his remaining life in jail.
Undoubtedly, with this decision, the victim’s family is elated. Victim’s father called it fair and feels great relief as finally her got justice. He thanked the judiciary and the media for it. The rape survivor called it a long journey of four years and she is happy with the decision.

Asaram trust’s spokesperson Neelam Dubey called the sentence a big blow and a disappointment. She said that the trust will definitely move high court against the verdict.

The followers of Bapu are extremely unhappy and praying for his acquittal. They are in grief and wanting him to come out of jail. Many of them started weeping as the news came out. There is unease at his ashrams. As there is Section 144 of the CrPC imposed in Jodhpur till 30 April, so reporters cannot get any direct response from the supporters of Asaram.
On this conviction, National Commission For Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) member Yashwant Jain said, “This judgment is a lesson to people who think they can get away by committing sexual offences against children.”
Retired IPS officer D G Vanzara, a follower of Bapu said that that there is no rape case against Asaram and the only charge is that he inappropriately touched the victim.
Bollywood actor director producer singer Farhan Akhtar also made a tweet on this conviction. He appealed people to stop sharing images of him with Narendra Modi and patronizing him. he said, “Let’s be fair and give him the benefit of doubt that he, like us, did not know.”
Congress leader Ashok Gehlot told reporters, “Such cases bring shame to the country. It’s time we crack down on fake gurus.”
Details about the case and charges on Asaram Bapu
Asaram Bapu is accused of sexually assaulting a minor girl at his ashram in Manai village, Jodhpur. He is being tried for many other offences like wrongful confinement, outraging the modesty of a woman, criminal intimidation and abetment to an offence.
Before the final verdict, Asaram’s bail plea has been rejected by Session Court six times. High Court of Rajasthan has rejected his bail plea three times while the Supreme Court has also denied him plea. Talking about the trials, it got completed on March 2018 and the Jodhpur court decided April 25, 2018 as date of judgment.
