Anti-Terrorist Squad catches 4 people red-handed with illegal tender; Rs 21 lakh seized

    After demonetisation, a series of old notes have been seized at various places across the country. Rajasthan too has become an integral part of the Demonetisation process, ever since it was announced.

    The Rajasthan Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) seized Rs 21 lakh in old currency from four people in Vidhyadhar Nagar area of Jaipur. The Anti-Terrorist Squad seized the illegal notes on Friday evening.

    Four people have been accused of the misdoing. All four have been arrested. According to ATS SP Vikas Kumar, the intelligence network of the sleuths traced down four offenders who are now in public custody. The Intelligence team hatched a bait for the wrong-doers.

    “We presented ourselves as bogus agents and offered to exchange their old currency notes at a commission rate of 15%,” Kumar said.

    Rajasthan state intelligence team has ben proactive in tracking down people with illegal tender. As many as eight cash seizures in the state.

    “The ATS intelligence network is dedicated to finding out channels which provide funding to terror outfits,” Kumar said.

    It is also a known fact that the ATS intelligence team has been closely watching actions of a many groups to thwart the circulation of illegal tender in the country.

    “While focusing on illegal money channels, one of our team members gave information about some people willing to exchange their money. We laid a trap and arrested them from the spot,” Vikas Kumar told.

    “The case is related to the hoarding of illegal cash, therefore, the I-T department will decide what action needs to be taken. The department will also probe the source of the money,” said Vikas Kumar.

    The Income tax department has been apprived about the incident. The department has also been given details of the offenders.

    Yesterday i.e. March 31 was the last date for old currency exchange, hence we could see serpentine queues outside RBI offices, which was the only avenue for getting new currency in exchange.
