Alwar has witnessed a nightmare-of-sorts, in the last four days. Four patients died after the alleged transfusion of contaminated blood. This incident is being dealt with appropriate seriousness and urgency.
After the reason of such deaths was discovered, the district administration imposed strict limitations on the usage of blood from the blood bank. This step was imminent to mitigate the grave issue at hand.
The health department launched an investigation to unearth figures of more lives which might have been victimised due to this menace.
Officials also informed that once the blood has been issued by the bank, it is more prone to contamination if left unused for next 4 hours.
The four lives which were claimed were– Suman Yadav, resident of Kishangarh Bas; Sonia Kalra from Katuri Wala Tibara, Arfina and Kampo who died after unfortunate transfusion of contaminated blood into their bodies.
Suman’s husband Ajay Kalra claimed that after transfusion, his wife died within just a couple of hours. He also filed an FIR at the Kotwali police station. Kalra said, “My wife’s haemoglobin was tad above 5 gdL, which is why she was admitted to the hospital two days ago.”
Not only this, the chief medical health officer (CMHO) Dr Pankaj Gupta formulated a five-member committee to scrutinise the matter. The committee comprises of deputy chief medical health officer, pathologist, drug controller officer, epidemiologist and a physician.
Moreover, an additional city magistrate Javed Ali has also been appointed to investigate the concerned matter.
The situation is under control, however, a detailed scrutiny is the necessity of the hour. The committee is undergoing the required investigation to arrive at a concrete conclusion and solution, in order to avoid such things in the future. “As of now, we are not in a position to say anything in the matter. We will be able to comment on it after we receive the report of the five-member committee,” Dr Gupta said.
A comprehensive investigation will be done to arrive at the real reason. The team is also likely to investigate into the manufacturing process of blood bag.
