Fast and friendly Belgian Malinois guard dogs were a centre of attraction during Rajasthan Diwas festivities this year. Now, these four-legged friends will help Rajasthan police save the day. Moved by their stamina, quick response and great observation power, the police have purchased 28 Malinois dogs to keep criminals at bay. In past, these shepherd dogs guarded cattle on Belgian fields. With changing times, US, UK, French, German and Scotland police invited them in their squad to trace anonymous criminals. Falling into their footsteps, Rajasthan police will employ a brand new dog squad to curb crimes in Rajasthan.

Earlier, the police used Labrador and German shepherd for crime sensing and vigilance. Compared to these breeds, Belgian Malinois dogs are smarter, friendlier and more active learners. This is first time that Rajasthan police is counting on these Malinois dogs to ensure safety in Rajasthan.

What’s Special About Belgian Malinois Dog Squad?

  • Quick and ever-observant, it’s hard to escape their watchful eye.
  • According to dog trainers, the Belgian Malinois breed is stubborn, hard-working, protective, confident and active by nature. They’re curious and watchful. They can easily sniff out crimes.
  • This April, two dogs named Leema and Huskey, trained by Constable Kailash Chandra and Pratap Singh have been employed in Udaipur police force. The dogs are actively participating in various police related activities.
  • The good thing is that trained dog squad silently accomplishes their mission. They follow all orders and take the offenders by surprise.
  • Having sharp senses, they sniff out narcotics, chase and corner drug smugglers. Their response time is so quick that the criminals don’t get time to retaliate.
  • Compared to Labrador breed (which is lazy), it’s easier to train this breed.

12 out of 28 dogs have already completed their training. The remaining dogs will undergo their training this month. 2 squads of these dogs were sent to Udaipur and Alwar while the remaining 8 squads have been employed in Jaipur. These dogs have been purchased from Bangalore trainers. Currently, the authorities are planning to purchase 9 other dogs of this breed. They’re positive that including these dogs will strengthen the skills and outcomes of police investigation wing.
