TISS’s CLIx program runs in Rajasthan, Awarded by UNESCO

Innovative ideas in education field are always welcomed. To make India grow, it is important that Indian citizens should be educated. Although the government is making all-out efforts to educate kids, still more improvements are required especially for kids belonging to undeserved communities. Considering this factor, Tata Institute of Social Sciences has developed a CLIx program.

CLIx program aims at improving the chances of students from underserved communities to access secondary and higher education in India. In fact, this program has changed the lives of many students. It has been recently awarded by UNESCO.  Know more about it.

UNESCO awarded TISS’s CLIx program

UNESCO ‘s prestigious award King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize has been awarded to CLIx program of Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS). Instituted in year 2005, King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize is an international recognition. This time, it is given for innovative use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the field of education. For year 2017, it is awarded to Connected Learning Initiative (CLIx). The winner will receive a monetary award (USD 25,000) and a diploma.

It is running in Rajasthan and has helped in improving learning outcomes in 101 government secondary schools in Rajasthan. This program of TISS is supported by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Tata Trusts. The CLIx was chosen out of 143 applications from 79 countries. This program provides learning experiences in three languages- Hindi, Telugu and English. TISS’s CLIx is the only Indian initiative to have been honoured with this award since the time of its institution. This program has been reached in four Indian states so far.

“The UNESCO award to CLIx program of India is a testimony to the efforts being done by all its stakeholders in improving teaching learning practices in our government schools by leveraging on the potential of ICT technology,” said Aanandhi P, State Project Director, Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan, Government of Rajasthan on achieving this award.
