A ‘dharna’ site donned a dramatic look when 26 years old Gujjar youth is on non-stop fasting from February 16th and is protesting against the unfavourable decision against SBC (Special Backward Class) and even got married on the dharna site itself. This happened at Sikandara Chauhraha in Dausa on Thursday.
The marriage ceremony got successfully completed and the youth even then continued to protest and stay on the dharna site. The couple received the blessings of thousands of people from his community.
The person named Devraj Gujjar had been selected for lecturer designation under Rajasthan Public Services Commission (RPSC). After the law got passed by Rajasthan High Court, he did not get the appointment letter. February 14th is the day, from when many such youth and women are undergoing heavy fasting.
His marriage was arranged eight months ago and without making any delays, he requested the bride’s father to keep the wedding ceremony on at the ‘dharna’ spot itself.
Devraj talks about the incident and said, “Job and marriage are important events in a person’s life. I have married Mamta Gujjar, who has done her master’s in political science. She too gave her nod to my protest. So, we got married. I will continue my fast unto death”.
Mamta Gujjar, his wife said, “I am proud of my husband. He is doing a good deed for his fellowmen. If our demands are not met, I will also join the protest.”
Devraj added to this saying, “I can’t betray my fellow Gujjars. If I am protesting for a cause, I have to be honest. Several Gujjars have sacrificed their lives for reservation and I can’t ruin their movement”.
The marriage ceremony was attended by many thousands of Gujjars and even many among them organised a feast for the guests.
After the marriage ritual got accomplished, the bride went home at his in-laws for further rituals and groom remained intact at the site continuing his own rituals of protecting his community.
