Blessed with deserts, forests, rivers, lakes, monuments and cultural jewels, Rajasthan offers ample scope for tourism activities, especially terrestrial and aero adventure sports. Like Goa, Himachal Pradesh and Kerala, adventure tourism has the potential to boost economy of Rajasthan. Realising this significance of adventure activities for tourism-related businesses, Rajsamand district in Rajasthan is going to launch crash courses in solo flights and paragliding for the first time.

Just recently, the Rajsamand district administration has granted licence to paragliding pilot Ajit Pratap Singh for training flying enthusiasts from next month. The local authorities have selected Morjan hills (located near Kesuli village) as the paragliding destination for training. They believe, by promoting adventure sports training, they can generate employment for local youths. Moreover, the concept will attract more tourists to Rajsamand, thus giving a kick to local tourism economy.

    What is Paragliding?

An adventure sport that fulfils your dreams of flying across the skies, that’s what paragliding is all about. In India, adventure fans can perform paragliding with the help of lightweight, flexible, foot-launched aircrafts. The flier is firmly secured to the aircraft by means of harness and fabric wings. The flier has complete control of the aircraft. He or she can start, abort and change the direction of the aircraft as per his own will.

Earlier paragliding was restricted to Canada, Australia, China and Norway. Recently, India has ventured into this field to attract adventure tourists to different Indian states. Therefore, there are very few training institutes in India that offer lessons in solo and tandem flights.

Who All can Take Paragliding Lessons?

The good thing about paragliding is that it requires minimal training and any individual can take lessons for it, irrespective of gender. Any healthy individual who is above 12 years of age can learn paragliding.

The training schedule will last for 10 days, wherein the coach will train the flier on —

    • Basic flight techniques,
    • Launching and landing aircrafts,
    • Altering the speed and direction of flight.

The district administration has arranged safety belts, equipment and helmets etc for flight. They’ve safely conducted paragliding experiments in this region to ensure complete safety of individuals.

How will Paragliding Prove Beneficial to Rajasthan?

Local natives who train in paragliding can start their own training clubs in tourism hubs. They can also work as instructors under different gliding clubs. Paragliding gives way to aerial photography. Thus, government as well as the trained individuals can generate income through flights and aerial photography.

For adventure enthusiasts, paragliding provides a wonderful opportunity to witness the beauty of landscape below from different angles.

In short, Rajasthan is all braced up to explore new possibilities in paragliding for creating direct/indirect income.
