On March 9, Rajasthan passed the Rajasthan Electropathy System of Medicine Bill 2018 in the latest budget session that brought smiles to the faces of a lot of doctors in the state. After the bill was passed, a delegation of Electropathy practitioners met CM Raje on 23rd March and expressed their gratitude for giving recognition to Electropathy as a system of medical treatment across the state.

CM Raje, while talking to the practitioners, said that now farmers will be encouraged to grow medicinal plants. This will provide them monitory benefits and will also ensure the availability of medicinal plants for a therapy.

Electropathy Research and Development

Now that Electropathy has received its due recognition it means that the practice has got acceptance as a system of medicine. As per a report, Dr Hemant Sethiya, President of Electro-Homeopathy Medical Council said that now a board will be setup for the development, research and education in the field of Electropathy.

While you are wondering if it’s a big deal, you must known that it’s in fact quite a landmark move taken by the state government.

What is Electropathy?

Electropathy or electro homeopathy is a stream of medical science much like allopathy, ayurvedic or homeopathy. People often get confused between Electropathy and electrotherapy. While the former is the use of herbal plants for treatment, the latter is the use of electric energy in the field of medicine.

While some believe that it’s a part of homeopathy, others argue that it’s a totally separate field. It can be explained as a derivative of homeopathy that relies on non-poisonous plants for the treatment of diseases.

This medical system whereby the medicine is prepared by obtaining the essence from herbal or medical plants and distilled water kept at normal temperature. The method of treatment is not only economic for the masses but it also doesn’t involve any side effects.

Electropathy in India

It may interest you that the status of Electropathy in India is rather a debatable topic of discussion because of the ambiguity of the field. Despite the presence of more than 150 colleges across the country offering the course in Electropathy and more than 2.50 Lakh Electropathy practitioners, the field is not recognized as a credible stream of medicine.

So basically until now there was no state government that recognized the Electropathy practitioners as doctors due to the absence of a council in India to get registered for the same. Although students are free to take on the course and even practice it but they are not recognized as doctors despite having a degree.

Denied Recognition

In 2012, it was reported that Kerala High Court and Allahabad High Court gave out the verdict that Electropathy is an unrecognized system of medicine.  In July 2017, the states were advised to have regulations regarding Electrotherapy and were asked to stop entities from offering the course.

Demand by Practitioners

In January 2018, the Doctors Meet Summit 2018 was organized by an NGO in Mumbai which was attended by 70 doctors to help the bachelors of electro-Homeopathy Medicine and Surgery with legalization of documents so that they can get themselves registered as doctors.

Earlier in March 2018, citing the example of Rajasthan government, the practitioners in Hyderabad demanded Telangana government to recognize Electrotherapy as a system of medicine. About 2,000 electro homeopathy doctors, students as well as Supreme Court and High Court lawyers took part in the conference to discuss the matter.
