After a long span of 10 years, Punjab will be run by Congress. The new chief minister, Captain Amarinder Singh, 75 took the oath this morning. In the list of 9 ministers, Navjot Singh Sidhu also sworn who had shifted from BJP to Congress previous year. In the recently held assembly elections in five states, Congress managed to win in one state i.e. Punjab. In all the other states, BJP’s winning flags are waving.

  1. Mr. Sidhu appeared winner and bold in these elections. The former Indian cricketer who turned politician touched the feet of Captain Amarinder Singh, signaled bluntly that he expects a considerable compensation as he was seeking for Deputy Chief Minister post.
  2. Very soon after ceremony was held, PM Narendra Modi congratulated to the new CM of Punjab hoping for the betterment of the state. He said it like, “Congratulations @capt_amarinder on taking oath as CM. Wishing you the very best in working for Punjab’s development”.
  3. The venue had the upbeat presence of Congress VP Rahul Gandhi and former PM Manmohan Singh during the ceremony.
  4. The list of the ministers have some elite names like Brahm Mohindra, Navjot Singh Sidhu, Rajinder Singh Bajwa and Rana Gurjit Singh.
  5. Captain Manpreet Singh Badal is the odd of Punjab Congress as he is the estranged relative of Prakash Singh Badal, who later found People’s Party of Punjab to get it mingled with Congress later.
  6. Mr. Sindhu is being loud and active on his words for Punjab saying, “I will sacrifice myself for Punjab. I want to see Punjab flourish”. Although, he is projecting himself as an important person of the party, Congress has not yet decided his role in the party.
  7. Mr. Sidhu has keen interest in the Deputy Chief Minister candidature of the state. But, the top leaders of Congress are in denial mode from long.
  8. Congress has already started playing it safe with saying that they have inherited a debt of Rs. 1.25 lakh crore from the previous government which makes Rs. 37,000 for every citizen of Punjab.
  9. Captain Amarinder Singh turned down the celebrations saying, “We do not want to celebrate when the people of Punjab are suffering due to severe financial and other problems”.
  10. The Congress won the Punjab elections with 77 seats out of 117 seats. Punjab is the consolation prize of the recent assembly elections held in 5 states of the country.
