    The alarming situation of smog in Delhi NCR has made it very difficult for the people to live. Talking about the today’s morning, it is again asked by Delhi government to keep the schools and colleges closed for today. Smog is also a kind of pollution. It is not the first time Delhiites facing this problem of pollution. Calling the city a “gas chamber”, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took the review of the situation along with health and environment officials. Well… it is not just Delhi which is polluted. There are several other cities in India which are extremely polluted. In fact, Rajasthan state also has high pollution content.     As per the report of World Health Organization, four cities from Rajasthan are ranked under 100 most polluted cities of the world. These cities are Jodhpur, Jaipur, Kota and Udaipur. The reason behind the pollution is the vehicle and industrial pollution. Indicators showcase the deteriorating air quality in the state.

    Talking about the rankings, Jodhpur is highest polluted city of Rajasthan with 30th spot in the global rankings, followed by Jaipur at 33rd while Kota stands at 58th position in this ranking and Udaipur was at 59th position. From India, there are 122 cities in this global ranking out of which four are from Rajasthan.

    Bhiwadi in Rajasthan most polluted city on Diwali

    According to a Central Pollution Control Board report, Bhiwadi in Rajasthan is the most polluted city on Diwali this year. Checking the Air Quality index on October 19, it is found that the level of pollution in Bhiwadi was at 425 micrograms per cubic metre. Although the sale of firecrackers on Diwali was ban, the pollution was the resultant of industries in Bhiwadi.

    What is smog?

    Smog is a complex mixture that is formed by various pollutants like nitrogen oxides and dust particles. These particles when interact with the sunlight leads to the building of haze that hangs in industrial cities.

    Experts’ opinion on increasing pollution in Rajasthan

    “With rise in air pollution, the obstructive airway diseases are on the rise. Every year it is increasing 10-15% in Jaipur. It also causes allergic conjunctivitis and among children allergic rhinitis is the reason of air pollution,” said Narendra Khippal, doctor and professor, institute of respiratory diseases, SMS Medical College, Jaipur.

    This increasing pollution in the state is affecting the health of the residents and making them vulnerable to several diseases. As Rajasthan is a highly popular tourist destination, pollution will affect its tourism business too. If Rajasthan does not work on this challenge then it will lose its business too.
