Food, clean drinking water, clothing and housing– they’re the basic rights that all humans need. Provision of adequate and affordable housing is a major thrust sector in foreign countries. Ironically, the Indians are far behind in this race. The reason? Increasing costs of land, construction, labour and resources has deprived the low-income groups of this right. Besides, limited budget restricts the government bodies from making provisions for affordable accommodation. Nevertheless, Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje understood the basic human needs and accorded high priority to this task. Raje’s ambitious scheme CM Jan Awas Yojana aims to safeguard the weaker sections by providing them with shelter.
