Just a few hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Donald Trump’s first meeting at the White house, Syed Salahuddin, the head of Kashmiri militant group Hizbul Mujahideen was announced as a specially designated global terrorist by the US State Department on Monday.
He may not be a name you hear commonly but there are serious threats which Salahuddin poses on India and its citizens, including Jammu and Kashmir residents.
What are the major implications of the announcement?
Announced by the US State Department, this announcement will leave a major impact on the US citizens. Due to this announcement, US citizens will be either barred from or restricted from buying all of Salahuddin’s property. They may also be prohibited from dealing in any transactions with Salahuddin.
Moreover, all of Salahuddin’s property and its interests thereof have been blocked by the US authorities, as far as their jurisdiction is concerned.
Why Hizbul Mujahideen chief Salahuddin?
Salahuddin, also known as Syed Mohammed Yusuf Shah expressed his intention of blocking peaceful termination of Kasmir issue.
Alongside, Salahuddin also went to board to declare that more and more security forces will be trained to become Kashmiri suicide bombers. Last but not the least, Salahuddin vowed to the vowed to turn the Kashmir valley “into a graveyard for Indian forces”.
Why is Salahuddin a threat?
While Salahuddin was the leader of the militant group, it claimed responsibility for multiple attacks, including the April 2014 explosives attack in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, which injured 17 people,” the State Department said. This has become a major threat to all Indian lives living in the Kashmiri valley.
