While every possible move is happening to curb the menace of corruption in Rajasthan, here is another dose of anti-bureaucratic initiative which will now be adopted in the Pinkcity, Jaipur.

The Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) drafted a proposal to give sanitation contract to different contractors in each ward. This move will check monopoly and bureaucracy of major contractors.

According to the officials, out of eight zones, contract of six zones has been given to one person who has registered separate firms under his name.

In an earnest attempt to rule out monopoly and corruption in state in 91 wards of the city, JMC has proposed to appoint one contractor for each ward.

City mayor Ashok Lahoti demanded an expeditious implementation of this new system which will monitor sanitation practices in the city.

In a bid to encourage small contractors’ participation, JMC administration has granted relaxation in various conditions of the contract. Also, work will be awarded after the contractor deposits 10% of the security amount,” said a JMC official.

While relaxations have been granted, stringent rules have also been duly incorporated in the contract. Per lane Rs 2,000 will be deducted from the contractor’s remuneration in case he/she fails to deliver standardised sanitation in the ward allocated to him. Not only this, a sum of Rs 2,000 will be deducted per drain, which is smaller than two feet.

The workers will be operating on highly monitored schedules which will ensure effective labour practices and deployment. “These workers will have to be present on the field between 7am and 4pm. They will get one hour lunch break,” added the official.

Recently, a sanitation app was also launched to ensure quick redressal of sanitation problems. The complaints registered on the app will be redressed in a maximum of 24 hours as contractors will be held responsible for the same, the JMC official said.

As a matter of fact, the sanitation workers went on strikes for not less than 7 times, in the last year. This initiative will also ensure that sanitation workers avert from calling strikes often.
