At present, when India is falling short of 2.5 lakh organ donors, the Union Health Ministry is all set to create the biggest organ donation pool for 20 lakh people who wish to donate their liver, heart and kidney after death. Organ donors can sign up for organ donation if they’re declared as brain dead by any chance. To relieve countless patients fighting against organ failures, the Centre will encourage more folks to donate their organs for the needy.
This Monday on World Red Cross Day, union health minister JP Nadda was in the Pink City to celebrate the origin of Red Cross society. For the first time in history, the Indian Red Cross society (IRCS) had organized a national celebration at Delhi on the World Cross Day. On this occasion, Mr. Nadda appreciated RCS’s remarkable efforts in blood donation and rescuing the victims of wars. They’ve also played an important role in rescuing the victims of Kargil war in Kashmir.
Two decades ago, India lost many lives due to unsafe blood transfusion, anemia and HIV. All this while, the Red Cross Society has organized blood donation camps in various parts of the country, encouraging people to donate blood for the needy. The organization of safe blood donation banks have brought about a 67% decline in HIV cases in India.
Realizing the significance of Red Cross society in promoting sound health, Mr. Nadda will attempt to develop Red Cross as the permanent support unit of union health ministry. The RCS will help government bodies in raising volunteers for organ donation. Around 20 lakh people all over the country have volunteered for organ donation drive. They’ve filled up forms to donate tissues and organs for people in need. The organs will be retrieved from willing donors with their family’s consent, after they’ve been declared brain dead.
To give a boost to the Centre’s effort, Rajasthan government will strengthen Red Cross society by organizing campaigns to increase its branches in Rajasthan. Rajasthan health minister Kalicharan Saraf will ensure that the state accomplishes this target on time.
Expressing concern regarding certain chemists, clinics and hospitals misusing the Red Cross symbol, IRCS Vice President Mr. Avinash Rai Khanna sought Saraf’s help for checking its misuse. Moreover, he proposed that at least one person in every Indian family must receive formal training in first aid. It’ll come in handy when they’ve to save the lives of other family members, should an emergency arise within the family.
Addressing the congregation gathered at Birla Auditorium Jaipur, Khanna requested people to join the Red Cross society. Rajasthan governor Kalyan Singh was the first person to sign up for the lifetime membership. He immediately submitted the Red Cross society lifetime membership fee (Rs 500), thus setting an example for the countrymen.
